Breakfast and dinner

Breakfast is served as a small, generous table rather than a performance of abundance. In the evening, resident guests can reserve one home-style meal built around the season, the number of people at the table and what the kitchen can prepare well.

Breakfast

Breakfast is served from 07:30 to 10:00 in the Map and Tea Room or, when conditions are kind, at the garden table.

A typical morning may include bread, eggs, yoghurt, fruit, preserves, butter, tea and a small changing dish. What appears should follow the season and the kitchen rather than an identical buffet photograph.

It is not a large self-service buffet. Food is replenished in sensible quantities, and guests can tell us when an earlier or simpler breakfast is needed.

Dinner

Dinner is one home-style meal for resident guests, normally served at 19:30.

Reserve before 15:00, or before arrival when dinner is needed on the first evening.

A meal may bring together soup, vegetables, grains, bread, meat or a vegetarian main, herbs, yoghurt and something simple to finish. The menu changes. We do not promise an extensive choice each evening, and we do not present contemporary home cooking as a staged ceremonial meal.

Dietary needs

Tell us about dietary needs before arrival.

We can usually prepare a considered vegetarian meal and adapt straightforward dishes. A small kitchen cannot safely promise that every allergen can be excluded, so serious allergies require a direct conversation before booking.

Preference and medical necessity should not be treated as the same thing. Both deserve a clear answer.

Children at the table

Children can receive smaller portions and simpler components of the same meal. An earlier sitting may sometimes be possible, but it must be confirmed.

High chairs are limited.

Packed lunches

A packed lunch can be ordered by 20:00 the previous evening.

It is intended for a walking day or excursion rather than as a replacement for an all-day café. Contents vary, but the hotel will explain what is included when the order is placed.

What we are not

There is no public restaurant, room-service menu, bar programme or late-night kitchen.

That limit is deliberate. We would rather serve one good table than describe a restaurant the house cannot consistently operate.

This is food service for resident guests; dinner is one pre-booked sitting, not a public restaurant or all-day menu.
